Zomato, Swiggy Receive GST Notices Worth Rs 500 Cr Each

New Delhi: GST notices worth Rs 500 crore each on delivery charges have reached online food delivery platforms Zomato and Swiggy.  have received, media reports said on Wednesday.

According to media reports, these GST notices issued to these online food delivery platforms are related to the money they charge from customers in the name of delivery fees.

Zomato and Swiggy claim that the ‘delivery charge’ is nothing but the cost borne by the delivery partners to deliver food to consumers at their homes. The companies claim that they collect the cost of delivery from the customers and pass it on to delivery partners. However, as per reports, the tax officials do not accept this clarification by Zomato and Swiggy.

In April, Swiggy introduced a platform fee of Rs 2 per order, irrespective of the cart value. In October this platform was increased to Rs 3 for each food order.

In August, Zomato also increased its platform fee to Rs 3 per order from earlier Rs 2.
