Stock Updates: Sensex Closed below 61,000 Mark

New Delhi: The key domestic stock indices today witnessed modest losses amid mixed cues from global share markets. The Sensex closed below the 61,000 mark while the Nifty settled below 18,100 level.

The Sensex declined 215 points, or 0.35 percent, to close at 60,906. The Nifty also fell 63 points, or 0.34 percent, to end at 18,083.

In the broader market at the BSE, the Mid-Cap index declined 0.12 percent while the Small-Cap index ended 0.23 percent up.

In the Sensex pack, 10 companies posted gains while 20 logged losses. SunPharma was the top gainer as it added 1.8 percent followed by ITC which surged 1.4 percent. Tech Mahindra added 0.9 percent and Reliance gained 0.6 percent.

On the other hand, Bharti Airtel declined 3.1 percent, Maruti fell 2.4 percent, HCL slipped 1.4 percent and Hindustan Uniliver ended 1.3 percent down.

In sectoral indices at BSE, five sectors logged gains while 15 logged losses. Metal sector climbed 0.7 percent while the Healthcare index gained 0.4 percent. Energy sector surged 0.1 percent.

On the other side, Telecom index declined 1.3 percent. Reality and Tech, both sectors fell one percent each while Auto sector ended 0.8 percent down.

The overall breadth of the BSE trade was positive as shares of 1,735 companies gained, while 1,726 fell. Shares of 148 companies remained unchanged.
