6Kg Gold Left Behind by Smuggler Who Attacks BSF Jawan at Bangladesh Border to Escape

Kolkata: A man smuggling 6 kg of smuggled gold into India attacked a BSF jawan with a knife when he was intercepted along the India-Bangladesh border in the Nadia district of West Bengal on Monday.

The jawan survived the attack. But the smuggler had to escape in a hurry leaving behind the gold. This incident occurred at around 9 am at Vijaypur in the border district of Nadia in West Bengal.

In a belt tied around his waist, the smuggler was carrying 22 gold biscuits and eight gold bars weighing around 6 kg. When he was intercepted by the BSF jawan on duty, the smuggler attacked the jawan with a large knife and escaped.

But except for his uniform being slit, the jawan did not receive any injury. Following this, the BSF jawan belonging to the 32nd battalion fired a round from his rifle at the smuggler, who managed to escape.

The jawan refrained from firing more shots as peasants were working in nearby fields.

According to sources, the BSF will hand over the seized gold to the Customs or Directorate of Revenue Intelligence authorities.
