CBI Arrests 4 Railway Officials in Bribery Cases

New Delhi: Personnel of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) arrested four Railway officials in connection with two separate bribery cases. Two of the accused were caught red-handed while accepting bribes.

In the first case, a Senior Section Engineer (SSE) of the South Central Railway, Tirupati had demanded a bribe to clear pending bills from the complainant, a director of a private company. This company was allotted a tender to install a power supply system for the maintenance of Head On Generation (HOG) coaches in Tirupati amounting to Rs 2.56 crore.

It was alleged that the accused SSE and others harassed the complainant demanding bribes to clear the bills. The accused person demanded Rs 2.75 lakh which was settled for Rs 40,000 after negotiations. The SSE was caught red-handed while accepting the bribe.

During the investigation, an Assistant Divisional Electrical Engineer (ADEE) was also caught while accepting Rs 20,000 bribe. Both were produced before a CBI court and were remanded to judicial custody until March 1.

In the second case, the CBI registered a case against an SSE of Sanpada, Central Railway on allegations of demanding 3 per cent commission as a bribe from the complainant, who supplied materials to Central Railways.

The CBI caught the middleman first, after which the accused SSE was arrested.

Searches are being carried out at the premises of the accused in both the cases.
