Man Sentenced to 20 Years for Raping 10-Year-Old Daughter in Odisha Capital

Bhubaneswar: In a significant verdict today, a POCSO court in Bhubaneswar sentenced a 57-year-old man, C. Siba Patra, to 20 years in prison for the rape of his 10-year-old daughter in 2018.

The Ad hoc Additional Sessions Judge at the Fast Track Special Court (POCSO) convicted Patra under sections 376(2)(i)/376(2)(f) of the IPC and section 6 of the POCSO Act.

The court’s ruling mandates rigorous imprisonment for two decades and a fine of Rs 10,000, with default resulting in an additional year of imprisonment.

The disturbing incident occurred on April 16, 2018, when Patra sexually abused his daughter while they were sleeping. The victim, in pain, confided in her 12-year-old sister, leading both sisters to seek refuge at a relative’s house that night. The elder sister reported the assault, resulting in their rescue by Capital Police and subsequent appearance before the Child Welfare Committee.

The accused was arrested on April 18, 2018, following the registration of a case at the Capital Police Station.
