Odisha: Accused IAF Officer Surrenders to Court in Minor Rape Case

Bhubaneswar: An Indian Air Force (IAF) officer accused of sexually abusing a minor girl has surrendered to a POCSO court in Bhubaneswar on Monday after his bail plea was denied. The accused, identified as Group Captain Korimilli Venkata Sreenivas, currently stationed in Delhi, was remanded to 14-day judicial custody upon surrender.

The incident occurred on June 23 when Sreenivas, originally from Vishakhapatnam, visited his in-law’s residence in Bhubaneswar. He lured the 14-year-old victim under the pretext of taking her to a party at a common friend’s house. Despite her resistance, the accused sexually abused the girl, who later disclosed the ordeal to her family.

Following the victim’s mother’s complaint, Laxmisagar police initiated a case under Section 376(3) of the IPC and Section 6 of the POCSO Act on June 28. Sreenivas had previously sought bail in the case, but his plea was rejected by the high court, leading to his surrender before the POCSO court.
