Sharpen Your Memory with ‘SAMuRai’ Method

Everyone wants to make his or her memory sharp like a Samurai sword. Good memory can clear away several obstacles in life. Why not use the time-tested ‘SAMuRai’ method to enhance your memory?

This memory-enhancing method has four key parts. It ‘S’ stands for Story Making, ‘A’ for Acronyms, ‘M’ for Mnemonics, and ‘R’ for building Relations. Let us know more about these four steps.

1) Story Making:  To remember anything, try to visualize and create your own story related to it. Make yourself a character in the story, who tried to know about every detail of this story.  If you want to remember all Presidents of India, try to imagine meeting them in person.

2) Prepare Acronyms: This is a ‘time-tested’ formula to remember long lists. Usually, first letters of words are used to make Acronyms. VIBGYOR is the acronym for the seven colours of the rainbow. In a similar manner, you can prepare your own acronyms for any list of words. You can also use your mother tongue to create interesting acronyms.

3) Mnemonics:  Mnemonics help us structure and organize the information we want to remember. It is said that a picture is worth a thousand words. In mnemonics, we create special visualizations in the brain in relation to concepts that we want to remember. It can be described as recalling information by looking at the picture that is formed in mind.

4) Relate: Always try to relate things you want to remember with absurdities. This makes them hilarious. Anything that is funny is remembered for a long period. For example, if you want to remember all rulers of the Mughal dynasty in the order of their succession, then think that you are giving a feast to all of them on your terrace. And they are sitting in chronological order.
