Imran Khan Says Democracy in Pakistan at “All-Time Low”, Judiciary Only Hope

Lahore: Imran Khan, the chief of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and former Prime Minister has stated that democracy in Pakistan is currently at an “all-time low.” He made these comments during an interview with Sky News on May 9th. According to Khan, the judiciary is the only hope for the future of democracy in the country.

The PTI Chief also claimed that the coalition government is scared of facing his party in the upcoming elections. He stated that they are “petrified of elections” and fear being “wiped out” by the PTI at the polls. Khan alleged that they have decided to only allow elections if he is either jailed or killed, adding that there have been two attempts on his life. He also revealed that his house was raided while he was away.

Khan condemned all forms of violence when asked about the protests that followed his arrest from the premises of the Islamabad High Court on May 9th. He urged the Supreme Court of Pakistan to launch an investigation into the violence that occurred that day.

During a recent address to PTI supporters, Khan asked them to come out and gather in their neighbourhoods with placards that read “Save Constitution, save the country” from 5:30 pm to 6:30 pm on Sunday. He claimed that the police prevented him from leaving the Islamabad High Court premises despite being granted bail in multiple cases. He added that they wanted to arrest him under the Maintenance of Public Order (MPO) outside the courtroom.

Khan concluded by saying that his supporters have always maintained peacefulness during their 27-year struggle and that he could never forget the violence unleashed by the state on PTI supporters and activists on May 25th.
