Milan: An explosion rocked the centre of Milan in northern Italy, leading to the ignition of several vehicles and causing injuries to one person on Thursday.

Fortunately, no fatalities have been reported in the incident. The cause of the explosion is believed to have originated from a van transporting oxygen gas canisters, as reported by Italian media.

Footage from the scene, in Milan’s Porta Romana neighbourhood, showed high plumes of black smoke and firefighters working to contain the situation.

Although the vehicles that caught fire were soon extinguished, smoke was seen billowing from the windows of nearby buildings, and as a precautionary measure, a primary school and a residential building were evacuated.

The incident highlights the importance of ensuring the safe transportation of hazardous materials and the need for strict safety protocols to be followed in such instances.
