Woman’s Mid-Air Death Compels Darbhanga-Mumbai Flight to Make Emergency Landing in Varanasi

Varanasi: A Darbhanga-Mumbai SpiceJet flight had to make an emergency landing in Varanasi when an aged woman passenger died mid-air.

The deceased identified as Kalawati Devi (85) was on the flight along with her grandson. She was travelling from Darbhanga to Mumbai. After the SpiceJet flight SG 116 took off from Darbhanga airport at 5.40 pm on Monday, the woman’s health condition deteriorated.

As the plane had entered UP airspace, the pilot of the plane contacted the Air Traffic Control (ATC) Varanasi for emergency landing permission.

The Spicejet flight landed at Lal Bahadur Shastri International Airport, Varanasi at 6 pm. The woman was rushed to a nearby hospital where doctors declared her dead.

The flight took off for Mumbai from Varanasi at 7.30 pm on Monday.
