Wife Didn’t Return On Karwa Chauth, Hubby Ends Life

Lucknow: A 24-year-old man named Pramod Kumar allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself in Bareilly district of Uttar Pradesh when his wife did not return from her maternal home on Karwa Chauth.

Pramod Kumar hanged himself in a room of his house on Wednesday night at Guga village under the Bhuta police station area.

According to family members of the deceased, Pramod’s wife Preeti had gone to her maternal home two months back. On Wednesday night, Pramod had an altercation with his mother-in-law over the phone regarding Preeti not returning to him even on Karwa Chauth. Later on Wednesday night, he allegedly ended his life.

Married women in several parts of India observe a fast from sunrise to moonrise for the safety and longevity of their husbands on Karwa Chauth. It was observed on Wednesday.
