2 Rape Accused Try To Evade Arrest, Shot At By Police; Arrested

Chennai: The Tamil Nadu Police on Sunday arrested two teenagers who were charged with raping a 20-year-old employee of a private company after firing at their legs on January 11.

The event took place in Sriperumbudur, close to Chennai on Sunday.

The two accused have been identified as Nagaraj and Prakash of Tiruvallur. The pair is charged in numerous incidents and are habitual offenders, according to the police.

The 20-year-old woman reported the incident to the police, saying that the two youths had abducted her to a remote location posing as police officers, and then raped her at knifepoint.

CCTV footage from nearby stores and buildings aided the cops to locate Nagaraj and Prakash. The accused attempted to flee the area by hurling country-made bombs at the police team as they closed in on them. The police had to resort to firing on the legs of the youth to capture them.
The two are admitted at the Sriperumbudur Government hospital under police custody.
