Bhopal Teacher, Deceased 10 Years Ago, Receives ₹7 Crore Income Tax Notice

Bhopal: The family members of a deceased woman teacher were left astounded when they received an income tax notice of a whopping Rs 7 crore in her name, ten years after her passing. The case is from Betul district, where similar incidents have come to light. Another individual, Nitin Jain, a shop worker earning a modest monthly salary of Rs 5,000, was equally taken aback when he received an income tax notice of over Rs 1.25 crore.

The deceased teacher, Usha Soni, who taught in Pathkheda village, passed away in 2013, but her PAN seems to have been misused by someone for fraudulent activities. The income tax notice was issued for the assessment year 2017-18, raising concerns among her family members.

Nitin Jain’s situation is no less alarming. After receiving the substantial income tax notice, he discovered that an account had been fraudulently opened in his name in Tamil Nadu, where transactions worth lakhs of rupees were carried out. He has filed a complaint with the police and approached the income tax department to address the issue.

Unfortunately, many people in Betul district have fallen victim to similar tax-related frauds, receiving notices for tax dues they never owed. The incidents have sparked fear and uncertainty among the locals, demanding immediate action to address the situation.

The authorities are actively investigating the matter, seeking to bring the perpetrators of these tax frauds to justice and prevent further exploitation of innocent taxpayers. Meanwhile, residents are urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the relevant authorities promptly.
