CPI Faces ₹11 Crore Tax Notice for Alleged PAN Card Discrepancies

New Delhi: The Communist Party of India (CPI) has been issued a notice by the income-tax department for ₹ 11 crore in dues. The notice reportedly stems from discrepancies identified in the party’s use of a PAN card while filing tax returns over the past few years.

Sources close to the CPI claim the party is consulting legal counsel to challenge the notice. These dues likely include penalties and interest levied by the income-tax department. A senior CPI leader confirmed they are seeking legal assistance.

This development comes after the Congress party was served with a similar notice for over ₹ 1,823 crore related to alleged discrepancies in past tax filings. Additionally, Trinamool Congress leader Saket Gokhale has publicly stated receiving multiple income-tax notices in recent days.

The Congress party has accused the BJP-led central government of attempting to target the opposition through these actions in the lead-up to the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
