Bizzare! Woman Bedridden For Past 20 Yrs Booked Under Gangster Act In UP

Meerut (UP): A woman who has been bedridden for the past 20 years has been charged under the Gangsters Act by the UP Police.

Alisha Begum, 53, has been bedridden for the past 20 years as a result of numerous medical conditions, including vision loss. She can’t walk by herself and weighs about 130 kg.

According to police records, she is a gangster, and her entire family has supposedly been implicated in a false case pertaining to a financial transaction that never happened.

According to reports, Naseem Qureshi, a local businessman, and Mohd Haneef, Alisha’s 53-year-old husband, had business ties.

Qureshi accused Haneef of not returning the Rs 3.5 crore that the former claimed to have provided to the latter for “constructing a meat plant in Madhya Pradesh” in an FIR that was filed against Haneef in November 2021.

“Investigations conducted in 2021 showed that there had been numerous errors in the case’s handling. It was only a matter of IPC 406 (breach of trust), hence there was no need for stringent IPC sections. Additionally, the notary agreement deed that the complainant (Qureshi) claimed to have signed with the defendant also contained errors. The partners’ images were taken from social media and did not adhere to the established norms,” Jitender Srivastava, SP, stated.

Three IPC sections—467 (forgery of a valuable security), 468 (forgery with intention to cheat), and 471 (fraud)—were removed from the FIR following the release of this investigation report, and a charge sheet was filed in the remaining IPC sections—406 (breach of trust), 506 (criminal intimidation), and 420. (cheating).

Six members of the family, including Alisha, were charged with violating the Gangster Act on December 13, 2022, despite the fact that the proceedings had been stayed by senior police officers and the Allahabad High Court.

Rajeev Sabharwal, additional DG for the Meerut zone, has now set up another inquiry.
