BJP’s Former Gujarat Minister Joins Congress Days Before Guj Polls

Ahmedabad: Jay Narayan Vyas, a former minister of Gujarat who left the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) earlier this month, on Monday joined the opposition Congress.

The 75-year-old former minister was formally welcomed into the Congress by the party president Mallikarjun Kharge in Ahmedabad.

Ashok Gehlot, the Chief Minister of Rajasthan was also present at Vyas’ formal joining ceremony. He conveyed his greetings to Vyas.

Vyas served as the Minister of Health & Family Welfare, Co-ordination of Voluntary Organisations, and Non-Resident Gujarati Division from 2007-2012 under the Chief Ministership of Narendra Modi.

He tendered his resignation from the primary membership of the BJP on November 5.

The 182-member Gujarat Assembly is up for election on December 1 and 5 whereas the verdict will be out on December 8.
