CRPF Trains 450 Paramilitary Personnel to Drive VIP Cars for G20 Summit

New Delhi: Approximately 450 drivers from the Central Reserve Police Force’s (CRPF) VIP security wing have undergone specialized training to operate left-hand-driven and bullet-protected vehicles. These vehicles will transport foreign dignitaries attending the upcoming G20 Leaders’ Summit in Delhi, which is set to take place next week.

The Union government has procured or rented a fleet of Audi, Mercedes, BMW, and Hyundai Genesis cars, both bullet-resistant and non-bullet-resistant, to accommodate the 41 top foreign guests.

The drivers will be responsible for chauffeuring world leaders and premiers to various destinations in the national capital, including the primary meeting venue, ‘Bharat Mandapam,’ and the five-star hotels where dignitaries will reside.

The CRPF’s VIP security wing, comprising over 6,000 personnel, provides protection to 149 high-risk individuals, including Union Home Minister Amit Shah, former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, and the Gandhi family – Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra.

For the G20 Summit, a total of 900 personnel from the CRPF have been deployed to provide close protection to the VIPs. This CRPF team includes members with previous experience in the Special Protection Group (SPG) responsible for safeguarding the Prime Minister and the National Security Guard (NSG), a counter-terrorism force.

In addition to the CRPF, the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) will safeguard the spouses of the dignitaries during the summit.

The Border Security Force (BSF) has been entrusted with providing a “contingency” motorcade for the G20 Leaders’ Summit. Other central armed police forces such as the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), and the ‘black cat’ commandos of the NSG are collaborating with the Delhi Police to secure routes and venues for the summit.

These forces have deployed sniffer dogs and anti-sabotage teams to ensure the safety of this significant international event.
