Eminent Gandhian-Philanthropist Krishna Mohanty to Get National Mahatma Gandhi Award 2023

Bhubaneswar: Eminent Gandhian-philanthropist and president of ‘Utkal Gandhi Smaraka Nidhi’ Krishna Mohanty will be honoured with the National Mahatma Gandhi Award 2023.

This honour includes a certificate and Rs 1 lakh. She will be conferred with this award during the upcoming national session of Sarva Seva Sangh in Jaipur, informed the association in a press release.

Krishna is the daughter of former Odisha Chief Minister and Gandhian social activist, Nabakrushna Choudhury. When her entire family and her elder sister were jailed for their participation in the freedom movement, Mahatma Gandhi asked Aasha Devi Sorkar to take five-year-old Krishna to the Sevagram Ashram.

Krishna’s childhood was spent with Gandhiji. Since 1996, she has been staying in Bajiraut Chhatravas in Angul, established by her mother, Malati Devi and the Utkal Navajeevan Mandal.

The 84-year-old is currently staying at the Chhatravas in Angul.
