Delhi and Mumbai on High Alert Following Explosions at Religious Gathering in Kerala

New Delhi: In the wake of a series of explosions that occurred during a Jehovah’s Witnesses prayer meeting at a convention centre in Kalamassery, Kerala, security measures have been heightened in the national capital and Mumbai.

The Delhi Police has increased security in crowded areas of the city in response to the blasts. Similarly, the Mumbai Police has issued a high alert due to the festive season, upcoming cricket matches, and the recent incidents in Kerala. Security has also been reinforced at Chabad House, a Jewish centre in Mumbai, due to the ongoing Israel-Hamas conflict.

The Delhi Police’s Special Cell is working closely with intelligence agencies and taking security precautions at crowded locations.

The explosions in Kalamassery resulted in one fatality and 36 injuries. The Kerala Police have identified the use of an improvised explosive device (IED) and will establish a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to investigate the incident. It’s been reported that the explosive device was concealed in a tiffin box.

Home Minister Amit Shah had a phone conversation with Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, and he directed the National Investigation Agency (NIA) and National Security Guard (NSG) to send their specialized teams to the scene for a thorough inquiry.
