Kolkata Police beefs up security ahead of Hanuman Jayanti today

Kolkata: The Kolkata Police has beefed up security in the city ahead of Hanuman Jayanti on Thursday. This comes after incidents of violence in the state during Ram Navami in the Howrah and Hooghly districts.

Even though no such incidents were reported in Kolkata, the police want to ensure the city remains calm on Hanuman Jayanti as well.

At least a thousand personnel will be deployed on the streets of Kolkata on Hanuman Jayanti to maintain law and order.

According to police sources, around six processions are scheduled to be taken out in Kolkata and Hanuman puja will be performed at nearly 80 temples in the city.

According to the sources, each procession will be escorted by the police force.

Officers of the rank of the additional commissioner and deputy commissioner of Kolkata Police will be present at every procession. Body cameras will be attached to the uniforms of every police personnel on duty on the roads.

Separate Hanuman Jayanti processions are scheduled in Howrah, Nimtala, Shambhunath Pandit Road and Brahmo Samaj Lane on Thursday.
