Senior Lucknow Cops Removed After Woman Harassed on Flooded Street

Lucknow: A viral video showing a woman being harassed by a group of men on a flooded road in Lucknow has sparked widespread outrage. The incident occurred on Wednesday under the Taj Hotel bridge in Uttar Pradesh’s capital.

In the footage, as a motorcycle carrying the woman as a pillion passenger passed a group of men, some tried to pull the bike back, causing the duo to fall on the waterlogged road amid heavy rain. The video also shows a man allegedly groping the woman before pulling the bike.

Following the incident, local police faced severe criticism for apparent negligence. Consequently, the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police, and Assistant Deputy Commissioner of Police were immediately removed from their positions. Additionally, the Station House Officer, the in-charge of the police outpost, and all police personnel present at the outpost have been suspended.

So far, four individuals have been arrested in connection with the harassment. The Lucknow police, who arrested two suspects earlier on Wednesday, have registered a case and formed three teams to identify the remaining accused.

Heavy rainfall on Wednesday led to significant flooding in parts of Lucknow, including the Vidhan Sabha building, where the monsoon session of the state assembly is underway.

Various other locations in the state capital experienced severe waterlogging for nearly two hours due to the intense rain.
