Muslim Man Kills Hindu Wife For Refusing To Wear Burqa In Mumbai

Mumbai: A Muslim man hailing from Mumbai has been arrested for allegedly killing his Hindu wife for refusing to wear a burqa and follow Islamic practices.

The accused has been identified as Iqbal Mohammad Sheikh, a resident of Tilak Nagar area.

Police said that based on the information given by the victim’s family, Sheikh was taken into custody shortly after the incident.

The 22-year-old victim, Rupali, and the accused, Sheikh, had been married for three years. Since their wedding, Rupali faced relentless pressure from Sheikh’s family to follow Islamic tradition and wear a burqa, a demand she was not willing to fulfil.

Following this, Rupali decided to live separately due to domestic scuffles over Islamic practices.

Police also informed that the murder is said to have happened on the evening of Monday, September 26, when Sheikh met his wife.

On Monday, Rupali met Iqbal Sheikh and demanded a divorce but he was unwilling to accept as they have a child together. The man then asked for the custody of their son, which the woman opposed. When she refused to give in to the demands, Iqbal Sheikh slit her throat with a knife and fled the spot.

Meanwhile, Police have started interrogating the accused. Further investigations are underway.
