No Compensation For Spurious Alcohol Victims: Bihar CM Nitish Kumar

Patna: Bihar CM Nitish Kumar spoke before the state assembly on Friday and declared that “there would be no compensation for those who passed away after drinking spurious liquor. We had pleaded with them, not to drink … saying things like, “If you drink, you will die. Those who advocate drinking will do you no good.”

This occurs at the same time that toxic liquor caused 53 deaths in the Saran district of Bihar. Earlier, BJP leaders protested against Nitish Kumar demanding his resignation and threatened, “Jo piyega woh marega” (those who consume spurious alcohol shall die).

A number of BJP MLAs held a protest in the state Assembly over the hooch deaths on Thursday, carrying banners and chanting slogans against the administration. The BJP ripped into Nitish Kumar on Monday, the second day of protests, and continued to stir up trouble inside the assembly over the Saran hooch disaster.

A new incident in Siwan, Bihar, where four individuals allegedly drank spurious alcohol and died, occurred as a political brawl broke out in the state over the Chhapra event. The death toll might increase, as per reports.

Reportedly, the Nitish Kumar administration had outlawed the sale and consumption of alcohol in the state of Bihar in April 2016.
