Karnataka DGP Praveen Sood to lead CBI as new Director

New Delhi: Praveen Sood, Director General of Police for Karnataka, has been appointed as the new Director of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for a term of two years. The decision was made by a high-level committee consisting of the Prime Minister, the Chief Justice of India, and the Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha.

Sood, a seasoned IPS officer from the 1986 batch of the Karnataka cadre, has an impressive track record of service in the state police. He has held several key positions, including that of the Commissioner of Police in Bengaluru and the Additional Director General of Police for Law and Order.

The position of CBI Director is of great importance, as the agency is responsible for investigating cases of corruption, economic offences, and other serious crimes. The Director is appointed by the committee mentioned earlier for a fixed term of two years, with the option of an extension of up to five years.

Sood’s appointment is expected to bring fresh energy and expertise to the CBI, which has been grappling with a number of high-profile cases in recent times. With his vast experience in law enforcement and investigation, he is well-equipped to lead the agency and ensure that justice is served in an efficient and transparent manner.
