PM Modi to Flag Off Assam’s First Vande Bharat Express Tomorrow

Dispur: Assam’s first-ever Vande Bharat Express will be flagged off at noon on Monday via video-conferencing by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) stated.

The technologically advanced train aims to provide the people of the region with fast and comfortable travel options while boosting tourism, according to an official statement.

The train will connect Guwahati and New Jalpaiguri, reducing the travel time by approximately one hour compared to the current fastest train on this route. The Vande Bharat Express will complete the journey in five-and-a-half hours, while the existing train takes around six-and-a-half hours.

In addition to inaugurating the Vande Bharat Express, PM Modi will dedicate 182 route kilometres of newly-electrified sections. This will facilitate eco-friendly transportation with increased train speeds and reduced travel durations. Furthermore, this development will enable trains operating on electric traction to extend their services to Meghalaya.

During the event, the Prime Minister will also inaugurate a newly-built DEMU/MEMU shed in Lumding, Assam. This facility will contribute to the efficient maintenance of DEMU rakes operating in the region, enhancing operational feasibility.

Currently, the Indian Railways operates 34 Vande Bharat Express services across 21 states. The organization aims to expand its services to seven additional states by June, ensuring wider accessibility and convenience for passengers.
