Cyclone Mocha Intensifies Into Severe Cyclonic Storm, Likely to Hit Bangladesh and Myanmar Coasts on May 14

New Delhi: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) in its latest bulletin said that cyclonic storm Mocha has intensified into a severe cyclonic storm and is currently located over the southeast Bay of Bengal. It has moved northwards with a speed of 11 kilometres per hour during the past six hours. The storm is about 520 kilometres west of Port Blair, 1100 kilometres south-southwest of Cox’s Bazar in Bangladesh, and 1020 kilometres south-southwest of Myanmar’s Sittwe.

According to IMD, the cyclonic storm is expected to move nearly northwards during the next 12 hours and intensify into a very severe cyclonic storm by tomorrow morning over the central Bay of Bengal. It is likely to cross southeast Bangladesh and north Myanmar coasts around noon of 14th May as a very severe cyclonic storm with a maximum sustained wind speed of 150 to 160 kilometres per hour.

Heavy to very heavy rainfall has been predicted at isolated places in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands tomorrow, while most places in Tripura and Mizoram are expected to receive rainfall on 13th May with heavy rainfall at isolated places.
