WB Assembly Speaker Suspends BJP MLA Suvendu Adhikari; Revokes Order Moments Later

Kolkata: BJP MLA from Nandigram Suvendu Adhikari was suspended by the Bengal Assembly Speaker on Monday for disparaging him. However, he revoked the order a few moments later.

The suspension order was revoked after Tapas Roy of the TMC withdrew the motion against Suvendu Adhikari.

In the midst of BJP MLA demonstrations over “corruption” by the ruling TMC, Bengal Governor CV Ananda Bose delivered his first address to the state assembly on Wednesday.

During the governor’s speech, the BJP MLAs staged a walkout and yelled anti-Mamata Banerjee slogans.

Soon after Bose began speaking to the House in preparation for the state budget that will be presented the following week, BJP MLAs led by Suvendu Adhikari began yelling anti-state government chants.

Additionally, they objected to the governor for delivering a speech that “had no link with reality” and alleged that it was prepared by the state government.

“This is one of the most corrupt governments in the state. We staged a walkout as there is no mention of corruption cases and arrest of TMC leaders in the speech,” Adhikari said.

Nirmal Ghosh, the chief whip for the TMC, charged that the BJP was trying to obstruct the assembly’s business.
