Mumbai: At least 25 people, including three children, died and eight others were seriously injured when the passenger bus in which they were traveling caught fire on Samruddhi-Mahamarg Expressway in Buldhana district of Maharashtra at around 1.30 am this morning.
This ill-fated bus with 33 passengers on board was traveling to Pune. The bus overturned after hitting a pole on the expressway and caught fire.
According to the driver of the bus, who survived the accident, the vehicle hit the pole after a tyre burst. As the bus overturned no one could get out when it caught fire after the accident.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi in a tweet related to this accident said he was “deeply saddened” by the loss of lives.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde announced a compensation of Rs 5 lakh each for the families of those who died. The eight injured passengers were rushed to a nearby hospital.
