3.7 Cr COVID Positive Cases in a Day in China: Report

It may sound unbelievable but it is suspected that China may have reported 37 million (3.7 crore) Coronavirus infected cases in a day this week. If true this is the largest single-day increase in COVID positive cases. Bloomberg reported this astounding number quoting an estimate from the China government’s top health authority. The Bloomberg report quotes minutes from an internal meeting of China’s National Health Commission held on Wednesday.

The report estimates that till December 20, 2022, around 248 million people in China were infected by coronavirus. It is reported that on December 20, the daily cases registered were 37 million.

But as per China’s official declaration, only 3,049 new infections were recorded on that day.

After the recent upsurge in COVID-19 cases, several videos have come up on social media showing overcrowded hospitals and crematoriums. Epidemiologists have forecast that millions of people are likely to be infected with new strains of coronavirus in the coming few months, and millions may die due to it.
