9-Yr-Old Boy Dies After Falling into Open Drain While Flying Kite in Cuttack

Cuttack: A 9-year-old boy died in the Bidanasi area of Odisha’s Cuttack on Sunday evening when he fell into an open drain while flying kite. The deceased was Joseph Sahani, a class III student of Modern Public School.

According to his family members, Joseph met with this accident while he went out of the home to fly kite. He accidentally fell into the open drain in their area. They blamed the callousness of the Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) officials for the tragic death of the young child.

Locals allege that the CMC has stopped the construction work of the drain passing through their area. But it has been kept open in a dangerous manner.

Open drains continue to be a major menace in the twin city. A photojournalist from South Korea, who had come to cover the Hockey World Cup was injured when he fell into an open drain in Bhubaneswar last week.
