Amritpal’s Shrewd Escape; Used Mercedes, Maruti and then Bike to Dodge Punjab Police

Chandigarh: Fugitive Khalistani leader Amritpal Singh is yet to be nabbed by Punjab police although the manhunt for him reached its fourth day on Tuesday. He was seen in security footage from a toll plaza in Jalandhar that he crossed during his escape.

The 30-year-old Khalistani radical preacher crossed the toll booth in Jalandhar, at around 11.27 am on Saturday. He was seen to be sitting in the front seat of a Maruti Brezza. On Saturday Amritpal Singh was also seen in a Mercedes SUV that he left by the side of a road in Shahkot.

Some hours he took ride in a Maruti Brezza car of an associate. He also changed his clothes in the car. Instead of his traditional Sikh attire, he wore a shirt and trousers. He also changed his turban. Later he made his getaway along with three aides in two bikes.

The Brezza has been seized, and four people who helped Amritpal Singh escape have been arrested. More than 120 people, including Amritpal Singh’s uncle, have been arrested since Saturday. They include several members of “Waris Punjab De”. Some of them were booked under the stringent National Security Act (NSA) and shifted to Assam.
