BCCI Thinking to Move 2nd Half of IPL 2024 Out of India, Report

New Delhi: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is pondering over the possibility of organising the second half of the Indian Premier League (IPL) in the UAE, hinted a report in the Times of India.

According to the TOI report, some BCCI officials have visited the UAE to explore the possibility of moving the second half of the IPL to the Gulf nation.

It is being thought that the decision to shift the second half of the IPL to UAE if the dates of the General Elections might clash with the second half of the IPL. The Election Commission will announce the date of the elections on Saturday, March 16.

“The Election Commission of India will announce the election schedule on Saturday at 3 pm. After that, the BCCI will decide whether should be moved to Dubai. Currently, a few top BCCI officials are in Dubai to explore the possibility of organizing the second half of the IPL in Dubai,” TOI quoted a BCCI official as saying.

There are reports that some of the franchises have already asked the players to submit their passports.

Previously, the IPL has been held overseas during election seasons, such as the 2009 edition in South Africa and partially in UAE in 2014. However, the 2019 edition successfully took place in India despite concurrent elections.

Reports suggest the final match will be held on May 26, preceding the T20 World Cup 2024 beginning on June 1.
