Bihar Hooch Tragedy Toll Rises to 9; Nitish Loses Cool in Assembly

Patna: The death toll in the Chhapra hooch tragedy in Bihar rose to nine inviting sharp criticism from the opposition on the liquor prohibition policy of Nitish Kumar. Bihar CM Nitish Kumar lost his temper during the discussion on the liquor tragedy in the Bihar assembly on Wednesday.

When he was asked by opposition leaders of the BJP about the deaths caused by spurious liquor in Chhapra, visibly agitated Nitish Kumar replied, “Kya ho Gaya, jehrili sharab, halla kar rahe ho tum log.”

The BJP members staged a walkout of the Bihar assembly over the liquor tragedy.

Although the consumption and sale of liquor is completely banned in Bihar since April 2016 through legislation, the state continues to witness illicit toxic liquor-related deaths.

The family members of the deceased persons of Chhapra hooch tragedy claimed that their relatives had died because of poisonous liquor.

This recent liquor tragedy took place in Isuapur and Mashrak police station areas.

This is the third liquor tragedy in Bihar during the last six months. In March, illicit liquor claimed 32 lives in Bihar. In August similar liquor tragedy had taken the lives of 11 persons in this so-called dry state.
