Bones, Hairs Found in Delhi Forest are of Shraddha Walkar; Confirms DNA Test

New Delhi: DNA mitochondrial profiling has proved that the hair and bone samples recovered from forests of Delhi were of Shradha Walkar, who was murdered by her 28-year-old live-in partner Aaftab Amin Poonawala, Delhi police informed on Wednesday.

The bones and hair were found in forest areas of Delhi NCR including Gurgaon and Mehrauli.

From several bone and hair samples, DNA could not be extracted. So they were sent to the Centre for DNA Fingerprinting and Diagnostics (CDFD) Hyderabad for ‘DNA Mitochondrial profiling’.

On Wednesday Delhi Police received the information that one piece of bone and a bunch of hair matched with that of Shraddha Walkar’s father and brother’s DNA.

Shraddha Walkar’s gruesome murder had startled the whole nation. On November 12 Delhi Police arrested her live-in partner Aftaab Poonawala on charges of her murder. He had allegedly killed her on May 18. After strangling Shraddha to death, Aftaab Poonawala chopped her body into 35 pieces and stored them in a 300-litre fridge for almost three weeks at his residence. He then disposed of the pieces in the forests of Delhi NCR.
