Britain & Poland to Erect 2 Villages in Ukraine for the War Affected

Britain and Poland will build two temporary villages in western and central Ukraine. These housing projects will provide shelter to families forced out of their homes by Russia’s invasion.

The British government on Tuesday pledged 10 million pounds for it. Almost 118,000 Ukrainians have been hosted by British families as part of the government’s response to Russia’s February 2022 invasion.

The British government said the proposed villages in Lviv in western Ukraine and Poltava in central Ukraine would be able to shelter more than 700 people. It is a fraction of the millions displaced in Ukraine because of the Russian invasion.

Ukrainians, who have become homeless because of the war are finding it difficult to get permanent housing.

“For the past year, (Russian President Vladimir) Putin has continued to target civilian homes and infrastructure, with the Ukrainian people paying a heavy price,” British foreign minister James Cleverly said in a statement. He hoped that the joint housing project of Britain and Poland will provide a ray of hope to the war-ravaged people of Ukraine.
