CM Naveen Declares One Day State Mourning in Odisha for Balasore Train Tragedy

Bhubaneswar: One-day state mourning was declared in the state by the Odisha CM Naveen Patnaik for the horrific three-train accident that took place on Saturday evening near Bahanaga Station in Balasore.

After visiting the accident site and hospital in Balasore where the injured are being treated, CM Naveen Patnaik said,  “…extremely tragic train accident…I have to thank the local teams, local people & others who have worked overnight to save people from the wreckage…Railway safety should always be given the first preference…The people have been taken to hospitals in Balasore and Cuttack so that they recover as fast as possible.”

At least 238 people have died and over 900 were injured in this major train accident in Indian history.

Declaring the state mourning, the Information & Public Relations Department of the Odisha government tweeted, “Important Announcement: In view of tragic rail accident at Bahanaga, Hon’ble Chief Minister, Sri Naveen Patnaik has ordered for State Mourning for a day. Hence no State celebration to take place on 3rd June throughout the State.”

The Tamil Nadu CM MK Stalin also declared one-day state mourning following the Balasore Train Accident in Odisha which claimed 238 lives and left 900 injured.

Railway minister Ashwini Vaishnaw reached the accident site and monitor the rescue and restoration work.
