Fake IAS Officer Conning People Arrested in Kolkata

Kolkata: A conman involved in duping several persons posing as an Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer was arrested by Kolkata police in West Bengal. The arrested person was identified as Shanta Kumar. He was nabbed on Sunday night by the cops of Burtolla Police station under the north & north suburban division of Kolkata Police.

He was arrested on the basis of a complaint lodged against him in 2022. The arrested man is a resident of Beliaghata but now stays in the Haridevpur area on the outskirts of Kolkata. He has a number of vehicles on which he has pasted fake stickers of the state secretariat and the city police.

As per the complaint filed against him by one Manju Ghosh at the Burtolla Police station in 2022, he had posed as an IAS officer and promised her two flats under a special quota at Rajarhat Megacity area. Shanta Kumar had collected Rs 11,76 lakhs from her and vanished. Following the arrest, police recovered some fake government papers as well as several fake stickers from his residence.
