Gutted Laxmi Market Complex was on Shree Jagannath’s Land; SJTA Wants its Eviction

Puri: The Laxmi Market complex in Puri which was gutted in a massive fire accident was erected on the land owned by Shree Jagannath Temple. On Tuesday, the Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) through a letter to the revenue department claimed that 22 decimal land of the market complex located near Marichikot Chhak on Bada Danda belongs to Lord Jagannath.

In a letter to the Tehsildar, the SJTA requested for an eviction drive to clear up the land owned by the temple. The SJTA also requested the Tehsildar to probe the possession of 3.5 decimal land of the temple by a private person in the same area.

Meanwhile, a committee headed by the Puri sub-collector has submitted a status report of damage caused by the devastating fire at Laxmi Market Complex.

This market complex with over 40 shops in Puri was burnt down in a massive fire accident last week. Luckily no one was injured. Puri district administration had formed a committee under the chairmanship of Puri Sub-Collector to ascertain the reason behind this major fire accident and the losses because of it.
