High on Alcohol, Man Discloses Details of 30-Year-Old Murder

Mumbai: In a stunning turn of events, a man who had successfully evaded capture by the police for over three decades found himself in the custody of the Mumbai Crime Branch. This breakthrough occurred due to a combination of alcohol and overconfidence, leading the culprit to divulge details of a double murder and robbery.

Back in October 1993, Avinash Pawar, along with two accomplices, committed a heinous crime by robbing and murdering a middle-aged couple in Lonavala. While the other two perpetrators were apprehended, Pawar, then 19 years old, managed to flee to Delhi, leaving behind his mother.

Pawar eventually settled in Mumbai’s Vikhroli after traveling through various cities in Maharashtra. He adopted a new identity, going by the name Amit Pawar, and even obtained an Aadhaar card. Over the course of three decades, Pawar refrained from returning to Lonavala, despite having family ties there, confident that he would never be caught.

However, a drinking session proved to be Pawar’s downfall. Under the influence, he shared explicit details of the double murder and robbery with an acquaintance. Sensing the gravity of the situation, the informant promptly tipped off Senior Police Inspector Daya Nayak of the Mumbai Crime Branch.

Acting swiftly on the information received, the Mumbai Crime Branch apprehended Avinash Pawar from his residence in Vikhroli. Raj Tilak Roshan, the Deputy Commissioner of Police for the Crime Branch, confirmed that Pawar had been on the run for three decades and was finally captured for his involvement in the double murder case.
