India Army Developing New Units to Fight Cyber Warfare of China, Pakistan

The Indian Army has decided to have new specialist units to counter threats and challenges of cyber warfare by China and Pakistan. The decision regarding it was taken during the Army Commanders Conference held in the third week of April. Under this project, Command Cyber Operations and Support Wings (CCOSW) are being raised in Indian Army.

This initiative is meant to safeguard the communication networks at a time when Cyberspace has emerged as an important component of the military domain. The cyber domain has also become more competitive and contested than ever before. Enemy countries are always trying to make cyber attacks. Indian Army has already initiated several measures to counter the aggression of enemy nations in the form of virtual honey trapping and hacking.

The Indian Army is also shifting towards net centricity with an increased reliance on modern communication systems at all levels. Because of it, the need for enhanced cyber security has become the call of the day. The new cyber security will strengthen the cyber security posture of the Indian Army.

The Defence Cyber Agency is working at the tri-services level to deal with these issues.
