Odisha Police Cautions against Manja thread Use during Makar Sankranti Kite Flying

Cuttack: Ahead of Makar Sankranti, Odisha Police requested all to refrain from the use of Manja (glass-coated) thread for kite flying. The Odisha Police also requested people to take utmost care while flying kites to avoid any mishaps.

During past years several persons have lost their lives because of manja thread. Many others also fell from roofs and high places while flying kites in the state.

Through a Twitter post, Odisha Police said “Use of Manza thread for kite flying may cause injuries and deaths to the commuters. Use of such thread will invite punishment to the kite flyers.”

Manja thread can slit throat of a man. In December 2021, a man in his 30s was killed by manja thread on Cuttack-Chandbali State Highway near Jagatpur in the Cuttack district.

The use of the manja thread is banned in several states of India.
