Rare Black Tiger Found Dead in Similipal Sanctuary

Bhubaneswar: A rare melanistic tiger, which is popularly known as black tiger, was found dead in the Similipal sanctuary. Informing about it, on Monday, the PCCF Sushil Kumar Popli said although the exact reason behind the death of the Royal Bengal Tiger was not ascertained, it appears that the tiger had died due to injuries caused by fighting with another tiger.

The dead melanistic Royal Bengal Tiger was aged over three years. A joint task force of forest department reached the area to collect evidence to ascertain the reason behind its death.

Representatives of the National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA) have also reached there.

It is suspected that fighting between two male tigers led to the death of the black tiger. The body of the dead tiger had injury marks.
