Scientists Develop Artificial Pancreas that Runs by an App for Type-2 Diabetics

Scientists at Cambridge University have developed an artificial pancreas for diabetics suffering from type-2 diabetes. This artificial pancreas is powered by an algorithm, a glucose monitor and an insulin pump that works through an app.

The app named CamAPS HX is run by an algorithm that predicts the amount of insulin required by a diabetic person to maintain glucose levels in the required range. This app and the artificial pancreas are the outcome of research by scientists of the Wellcome-MRC Institute of Metabolic Science at the University of Cambridge.

A report about the first trial of this artificial pancreas is published in the journal Nature Medicine. Twenty-six diabetic patients were chosen for the trial.
