Trans Candidates Made to Wait for 6 Yrs by TN Police for Physical Test

Chennai: Two transgender candidates aspiring to get employed by Tamil Nadu Police were made to wait for six years for their physical tests. The duo was allegedly rejected by the TN Police without proper reason.

Through a press conference, the activists of ‘Trans Rights Now’ highlighted the plight of these two transgender candidates who want to join the police force and are facing hurdles for years.

One of these transgender candidates is 27-year-old Yazhini from Yedakudi village in Tamil Nadu. Despite her family’s poverty, she completed BE in Mechanical Engineering and decided to become a police officer. She got 48 out of 80 marks in written exams. In the physical tests, she qualified but was rejected for being short by 0.5mm.

Similarly, 32-year-old Anuradha from Theni wrote the exam for police job in 2016. But even after seven years, she doesn’t know if she passed or failed. Initially, she was not allowed to appear for the written exam. She had to undertake a legal fight to get the hall ticket. But she is yet to know whether she passed or failed.

‘Trans Rights Now’ alleged that transgenders are facing such hurdles as there is no proper reservation for a transgender.
