Balasore Train Tragedy: CBI Gets 4 More Days Remand of 3 Accused

Bhubaneswar: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has sought four more days’ remand of the three accused in the Bahanaga train accident. The court subsequently allowed the central probe agency to take the accused into remand.

The three accused are Senior Section Engineer (signal) Arun Kumar Mahanta, Section Engineer Mohammed Amir Khan, and Technician Pappu Kumar. They have been accused of lapses in the signalling circuit alteration carried out at the North Signal Goomty (of the station) in the past.

The deadly train mishap at Bahanaga Station in Odisha’s Balasore had occurred due to these lapses. The CBI is interrogating the accused to gather more evidence.

Meanwhile, two more Indian Railways employees have been summoned by the CBI for questioning. They are being interrogated at Chandaka Police Station on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar.

The CBI is expected to file a charge sheet in the case soon.
