Woman Drowns, Another Rescued in Boat Capsizing Accident in Odisha’s Ganjam

Ganjam: A tragic incident occurred in Ganjam district, Odisha, on November 3, when a boat capsized in Tampara Lake, resulting in the drowning of one woman. Her sister-in-law was successfully rescued.

The victim, Puspa Behera, and her sister-in-law, Bani Behera, from HUmara village in Chhatrapur block, had gone to collect firewood in a nearby forest. They were on their way back home, crossing Tampara Lake in a country boat, when the boat overturned midway through the journey.

Both women and the boatman were submerged in the lake. Fortunately, the boatman reached the shore and sought help from villagers, who promptly contacted the Chhatrapur Fire Brigade.

Fire Brigade personnel recovered Puspa’s body and an unconscious Bani after an extensive search in the lake. Bani was rushed to the local hospital and successfully recovered after receiving treatment.
