Cancer Declared As “Reportable Disease” By Odisha Government

Bhubaneswar: It is critical to quantify the burden of cancer and how it is distributed with respect to time, place, and person in order to mobilise resources for prevention and control and reduce the number of deaths attributed to it. It is imperative to keep in mind that certain geographic areas require adequate treatment due to the prevalence of particular cancer types.

All cases of cancer must be reported to the appropriate authorities as soon as they are detected in order to enable early disease detection and treatment, according to the Odisha government.

The Government of Odisha requires that all parties involved in hospitals (private or public), pathological, clinical, and radiological labs, institutions that impart medical education and offer diagnostic treatment, palliative care, and any other facilities related to healthcare report any cases of cancer that have been confirmed to exist.

According to a State Government Notification, “Cancer” would be properly followed as of October 19, 2022, in the State of Odisha as a “Reported Disease” for the purpose.

Additionally, on October 15, 2022, the NISER Bhubaneswar campus launched the Population Based Cancer Registry (PBCR) in the Khordha district of Odisha with assistance from the Department of Atomic Energy and Tata Memorial Centre, Mumbai.
