Chameleon Trading Racket Busted In Bhubaneswar; Two Pedlars Nabbed

Bhubaneswar: Two persons have been arrested by the Forest Department officials today for their alleged involvement in the racket of capturing and selling chameleon, an endangered species.

The accused duo has been identified as Khirod Mohanty and Rashmi Ranjan Das of Tirtol in Jagatsinghpur district, who were striking a deal at Shyama Prasad Mukherjee park near Vani Vihar to sell a chameleon.

According to Forest Department sources, the duo had bought the chameleon from a person of Jatni and was trying to sell it for Rs 1.5 lakh to a person at Shyama Prasad Mukherjee park. The duo has been booked under the Wildlife Act.
