Bhubaneswar: 10 districts have suffered some damage due to the flood waters of Mahanadi, but Cuttack, Puri, Jagatsinghpur, and Kendrapara districts have suffered the most. Wide areas of these 4 districts have been submerged. 6 dams have been created in the river basin. Floodwaters are now entering settlements and agricultural lands in the gorges created in Kani, Rajua, Makra, and Pika.

More than 10.5 lakh cusecs of water are still flowing in Mundali. Flood waters are likely to inundate some more areas tonight. So today is the most important night, SRC Pradeep Jena said. That is why he appealed to the district administration and the public to be careful. He said that while 4 lakh 67 thousand people have been affected by the flood, this number will increase further.

425 villages are under water. However, due to the low pressure that will be created on the 19th, as there is a possibility of rain again from this evening, it is estimated that the plight of the flood risk will double. Therefore, the SRC has ordered the district administration to immediately provide dust to the people who have taken shelter on the roof and in high places.

SRC Mr. Jena said that till now water is being drained through 40 gates of Hirakud. A decision to open or close the gate will be taken based on the situation. As of 9 pm today, the water level of the dam is 625.95 feet, while 5,36,761 cusecs of water are entering the reservoir and 6,76,528 cusecs of water are being discharged from the reservoir.

Now 10,57,604 cusecs of water are flowing in Mundali, 9,48,000 cusecs in Khairmal, and 8,97,750 cusecs in Barmul. The water levels of various rivers are above the danger mark. So far 4 lakh 67 thousand people have been affected by the floods and this number will increase further. 2 lakh 50 thousand people are stranded. 1757 villages of 64 blocks and 60 wards of 10 towns have been damaged. 425 villages are under water. Six people were injured due to the flood. Therefore, the water flooded the settlements and agricultural lands and caused extensive damage.

Till now 60 thousand people are being given food. Local people and the administration have been able to stop it together as there is a risk of an injury in the river. Even now the flood waters are flowing. We cannot say danger free until the flood waters recede. Tonight is very important. There is a possibility that more areas will be inundated as the floodwaters are now receding through various ghats. Even some other rivers may be damaged. Therefore, SRC has appealed to the local people to guard the weak river bank. He asked the district administration to be vigilant in this regard and help the local people.
