IMD Alerts: Deep Depression Expected Off Odisha Coast by November 17

Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has reported the potential intensification of an existing low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal. The system is expected to develop into a depression by November 15 and further into a deep depression off the Andhra Pradesh coast by November 16. The IMD has issued wind and rainfall warnings for Odisha in connection with this weather system.

According to the IMD bulletin, squally winds with speeds of 40-50 kmph, gusting to 60 kmph, are anticipated along and off the Odisha coast on the evening of November 15. These winds are expected to gradually increase, reaching 45-55 kmph, gusting to 65 kmph, from the morning of November 16. Subsequently, on the evening of November 16, wind speeds are forecasted to reach 50-60 kmph, gusting to 70 kmph, and continue for the next 24 hours.

The rainfall warning indicates heavy to very heavy rainfall in specific districts on November 16, including Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara, Puri, Ganjam, Khurda, Bhadrak, Cuttack, Jajpur, Balasore, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Dhenkanal, and Nayagarh. On November 17, heavy rainfall is expected in selected districts, including Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Dhenkanal, and Kendrapara.
